Lorna Goodison, Mervyn Morris, Eddie Baugh And Tanya Shirley for Talking Trees 2015
The 2015 edition of the Talking Trees Literary Fiesta is gearing up to be a calendar noteworthy event for lit lovers. Organizers of the biennial literary festival have unveiled a stellar line-up set to heat up the black sands of Treasure Beach.
Talking Trees 2015 is headlined by Jamaica’s Poet Laureate Prof. Mervyn Morris, Lorna Goodison, Eddie Baugh and Tanya Shirley. Sharon Leach, Amina Blackwood Meeks, Victor Chang are also on this year’s line-up, which is shaping up to be a diverse offering.
The event will be hosted by Fabian Thomas whose short play 'Devon' will also be staged as a part of the event. Talking Trees will also be offering up some young adult literature with readings by Gwyneth Harold (who is also one of the event organizers) as well as the young writers Jhada and Jonadee Martin.
Now in its fourth edition, Talking Trees was among the slew of literary events that sprang up in Jamaica in 2011, in the void that had been left by what had then seemed to be the departure of the Calabash International Literary Festival. It is however the only one that has made the medium term haul.
The 2015 event is being presented by Two Seasons Guest House, where the event is located, along with the Department of Literatures in English at the UWI, Mona and the Gloria Lyn Memorial Fund.
Talking Trees takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm at The Two Seasons Guest House in Treasure Beach on Jamaica’s South Coast. The event is free.
