Shaggy & Friends 2014 Boasts Tessanne, Taurus, Chronnixx and Assassin
The Shaggy and Friends concert will once again take over the lawns Jamaica House on Saturday, January 4, 2014. Shaggy has pulled together a hard hitting line up including Tessanne Chin in what will be her first major performance on the island since the singer was named The Voice.
Shaggy and Friends 2014 will also be headlined by Shaggy, Chronixx, Taurus Riley, Wayne Marshall, Konshens and Assasin. The concert, was first staged in 2009 and was created to raise funds for the Bustamante Children’s Hospital, the only one of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean. It seems only fitting, that it is Tessanne Chin's first stint on the island after her newly won acclaim, as she credited Shaggy with the one who advised her to audition for The Voice. The singer, who is bieng touted as the great hope for The Voice to finally produce a superstar will also be performing with the finalists (Jacqui Lee and Will Champlin) of the reality show at the Rose Parade in California on New Year's Day.
Shaggy and Friends is produced by the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation and has been shifted to a biennial event, the show therefore took a break in 2013. The concert, which features the tagline 1 ticket = 1 life, is supported by donations from private and corporate citizens. This year, Shaggy and Friends is being sponsored by Digicel, Scotiabank, Red Stripe, The Wisynco Group, KFC and Pizza Hut.
The concert series has reportedly raised almost USD $1 Million through the three previous stagings, making a donation of $32 Million after the 2012 event. Audiences to Shaggy and Friends 2014 can acquire tickets in three tiers: silver ($5,000), gold ($10,000) and platinum ($20,000). Patrons who purchase their tickets before December 25, 2013 will receive a 20% discount on the price.
The Shaggy and Friends Concert has been lauded for the in roads made in providing critical support for the hospital. Previous Shaggy and Friends concerts have included Lauryn Hill, Eve, and Stephen Marley.
