And then there were six... The list of emerging writers vying for the inaugural Hollick Arvon Caribbean Writers Prize has been further narrowed to six candidates hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda and the Bahamas.

The Orphan Master’s Son by Adam Johnson (Random House) copped the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for literature while Ayad Akhatar’s Disgraced earned the prize for drama. The 2013 Pulitzer for poetry was snagged by Sharon Olds for her work Stag’s Leap, published by Alfred A Knopf.

Twenty-One writers from across the Commonwealth are vying for the 2013 Commonwealth Book Prize. Interestingly, as with 2012, the Caribbean has only a sole writer shortlisted for the regional prize.

Attorney Godfrey Smith has been selected Chair of the 2013 Commonwealth Book Prize. Smith, a national of Belize, is the author of the biography, George Price: A Life Revealed which earned the 2012 Bocas Prize for literary non-fiction.
