Tribe Sankofa Gets 'Turnt Up' With Kei Miller and Michael Sean Harris
Tribe Sankofa is getting ‘turnt up’! At least so declares the name of their upcoming edition of their Word Soul performance event. The list of guest performers slated to join the Tribe for the performance suggests that this is no empty boast. The Tribe will be joined award-winning poet and author Kei Miller, as well as celebrated musician, singer and songwriter, Michael Sean Harris.
Tribe Sankofa is a 15-member performance art group, headed up by founder and artistic director Fabian Thomas. The show’s producers Tribe Sankofa Arts and Facilitation, will be teaming up with the Department of Literatures in English for the event which they have described as their most ambitious staging of Word Soul. The event will showcase the Tribe’s blend of spoken word poetry and acoustic soul music.
The Tribe will also be joined by poet Yashika Graham as well as guest dancers from three of Jamaica’s most prominent dance troupes. The show will therefore also feature: Amanyea Stines and Tashnie Hinds of L’Acadco: A Caribbean Dance Force; Renee McDonald of The Company Dance Theatre; Royane Green of Movements Dance Theatre.
Word-Soul: The Turnt Up Edition will take place at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, at the University of the West Indies, Mona, on Sunday, December 19, 2015. Showtime will be at 8:00 p.m. with cocktails at 7:00 p.m.
Word Soul: The Turnt Up edition is not recommended for children under 16 years old.
